Here are the Facts

Promoting Literacy

Reading aloud is a powerful tool, recognized as the single most important activity for literacy acquisition. Empower children with the joy of books and boost their reading skills.

Brain Development

In the first few years of life, a child’s brain forms 700 new connections per second. Early reading stimulates cognitive growth and sets the foundation for future learning.

Closing the Word Gap

By age three, children from low-income families hear 30 million fewer words than their affluent peers. Let’s bridge this gap by enriching their vocabulary through reading.

Access to Books

Having just 25 books at home can significantly raise a child’s reading level. Together, we can ensure every child has access to the books they need.

Vocabulary and Success

Vocabulary development by age three is a strong predictor of reading proficiency by third grade. Early intervention is key to long-term success.

Reading Proficiency

Only 43% of children are reading proficiently by third grade. Our mission is to improve literacy rates by providing resources and support to young learners.

"PEERS was an eye-opening and rewarding experience that kindled my passion for giving back, especially to those who haven’t had the same opportunities I did growing up. It was not only fun, but it also allowed me to see the personal impact this program has in bridging the economic and educational gap in my local community. Through PEERS, I learned valuable skills that can't be taught in the classroom, such as how to engage with and mentor the kids in the program, becoming a role model they might not otherwise have in their lives."

"Being a part of PEERS has been an incredibly fun and enlightening experience. It's given me the opportunity to learn so much about my community and has provided a meaningful way to give back. Not only is it a great way to earn service hours, but it also allows you to make a real impact on the younger generation. Through this program, I've learned how to motivate and inspire others, and it's been a fantastic way to get involved in Greenville. I couldn't recommend it more”
